HOME CLUB OFFICIALS MEMBERSHIP SA BULL TERRIERS

The South African Bull Terrier Club is the nationwide, international parent club for all Bull Terrier fanciers and enthusiasts in Southern Africa and draws membership from all over Southern Africa and the world.  Founded in 1942, it is the oldest Bull Terrier Club in South Africa, surrounded by 10 other regional clubs, most of which it was instrumental in establishing.  It is associated with the Bull Terrier Club of England.

In addition to holding annual Championship and Open Shows, the SABTC also organises and hosts the annual showcase of Southern African Bull Terrierdom – the Major Trophy Show – at which the sub-continent’s Supreme Bull Terrier  is crowned, and the winners of the Ormandy Jugs and Vases are selected, as well as the Coloured Bull Terrier of the Year.  The Stud Dog and Brood Bitch of the Year titles are also awarded, as well as the SABTC’s prestigious Kingstonia Award  to recognise an individual who has made a significant, historical or lifetime contribution towards the breed.  The glittering event is overseen by the Major Trophy Show Organising Committee of the South African Bull Terrier Club, composed of Chairmen of other participating sister clubs.  The MTS is governed by Schedule 1 of the SABTC Constitution, listed with KUSA as Schedule 5E (15)1.3 [WORD] effective since 1st September 2009.

The South African Bull Terrier Yearbook, available for purchase through the Club, is produced annually by an editorial sub-committee.  The Yearbook is in full colour and incorporates, amongst much more, articles, Major Trophy Show results, particulars of Bull Terrier that have gained KUSA championship status and adverts by breeders, clubs and related businesses.  It is an important documented history of the Breed in Southern Africa.

In 2005 the  Club introduced a Recognition of Merit Award for Bull Terriers in South Africa.  It is hoped that this system will grow to become recognised as a premier award for Bull Terriers, also recognised by the Kennel Union of Southern Africa.

Another annual SABTC  event is the Raymond Oppenheimer Interclub Match currently hosted by the Northern Free State Bull Terrier Club.
