NEWS, VIEWS, EVENTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND INFORMATION

PREPARATIONS FOR THE 2011 SOUTHERN AFRICAN BULL TERRIER MAJOR TROPHY SHOW ARE IN PLACE FOR THIS GREAT EVENT ON SATURDAY, 4TH FEBRUARY 2012, AT THE USUAL VENUE AT THE KLIPRIVIERSBERG RECREATION CENTRE, PEGGY VERA ROAD, KIBLER PARK, JOHANNESBURG.  IT STARTS AT 13:00 SHARP AND WE WOULD LIKE EVERYONE TO BE THERE BY 12:30.  For your convenience here is a road map to guide you to the show.  It is not drawn to scale, but if you simply follow the marks and instructions on the map you should reach the venue as easily as the visitors did last year.

The show should end shortly after 17:00, but you are welcome to enjoy yourselves in the exhibition hall as long as you like after the show.  There will be a cash bar and kitchen which will supply the usual eats and drinks to fill you up while the show is on, but visitors and exhibitors are welcome to bring their own refreshments and cool boxes and enjoy themselves at the informal tables behind the ringside seating or right there in your seats around the ring.

We have more than 70 special RINGSIDE SEATS available at R50 each and there are still quite a number hich exhibitors and visitors can book to enjoy the dogs and the judging right in front of them.  All bookings are being handled by our Show Secretary, Tania Linstrom, at tanialinstrom@gmail.com. Book with her, pay your R50’s into the South African Bull Terrier Club bank account at ABSA, Fourways branch, code 632905, cheque account number 232 015 1913, e-mail your proof of payment to tanialinstrom@gmail.com  or fax it to 086 650 9562.  Tania’s mobile phone number is 083 657 0601. Your seating tickets will be e-mailed to you as soon as your proof of payment has been received on a first come first served basis from the best seats on the movement lines on the carpet further down the line.  This will ensure that pre-booked visitors will not have to queue for their seating tickets when they arrive at the show.  Tthe VIP’s will be seated in the VIP section at the ringside.  The draped, reserved ringside seats will have the names of the guests pinned to them to make it easier for you to find your seats.  Visitors, officials and exhibitors who don’t book and pay in advance are free to sit where they like behind the ringside seats.  The stand above the show ring is again closed and no-one will be allowed to sit there.  We want all our visitors and exhibitors around the ring to add to the festive, relaxed and informal atmosphere.

The SABTC’s 2011 YEARBOOK in full colour and with plenty of colourful illustrations and informative articles with photographs, will be on sale at the Regalia table at R250 a copy, and can also be pre-ordered and paid for in the same manner as the ringside seats by e-mailing or faxing Tania. Advertisers in the Yearbook may collect their copies from Tania before or during the show. All the show packs for  the exhibitors and those who have ordered SHOW CATALOGUES (at R120 each) AND YEARBOOKS (R250) will be available from secretary’s table before and during the show.  MTS DVD’s (at R120 each) may also be ordered and paid for in advance through Tania and will be available within a month after the show (we have a highly professional video team with three cameras and a proper big screen with us this year).

Ringside seats, Yearbooks and Show Catalogues that have not been ordered and pre-paid beforehand, will be available at the Secretary’s and Regalia tables.

There is a remarkable crop and line-up of top-class dogs and bitches entered for the MTS and the pundits are speculating feverishly about what the three judges, Frik Fourie, Georgia Schiller and Andre Strydom might do.  So, if you want to see this spectacular, sensational show, role up on Saturday, 4th February at 12:30 or earlier if you want a good seat, and see for yourself – THE GREATEST SOUTHERN AFRICAN BULL TERRIER SPECTACLE OF THE YEAR!

FOREIGN VISITORS: We again have a small crop of important overseas visitors again this year.  They are Ron Scott (Junior) a long-standing Committee member of The Bull Terrier Club (UK) and Chairman of the Northern Provincial Bull Terrier Club, England, whose late father, Ron Scott (Senior), was also a long-standing Bull Terrier Club Committee member; and then there is the Treasurer of The Bull Terrier Club, Eddie Ball.  The two are travelling together.

Ron and Eddie have been contracted to judge the OPEN SHOW of the NORTHERN TRANSVAAL BULL TERRIER CLUB the Saturday after the MTS on 11th  February.

SA BULL TERRIER CLUB SEMINAR AND BULLY BRAAI:

Ronny Scott and Eddie Ball will address a seminar on what they have seen at the MTS and NTBTC Open Show on the Sunday immediately after the NTBTC Show, on 12th February at Andre and Doulina Strydom’s expansive place in Honeydew at 11:00.  They will also demonstrate the Breed Standard on dogs provided specially for the occasion, after which all present will enjoy a BULLY BRING & BRAAI under the shady trees in the Strydom’s Honeydew lapa or in case of rain, in their indoor braai room.  Fire and coals will be provided, so all you have to bring are your families, crockery, eats and drinks and come and enjoy yourselves.  If you want to come and show any of your dogs or puppies to the two British judges, you are most welcome to bring them along in secure travelling boxes or crates.  We held a highly successful bring and braai at the same venue shortly before Christmas, attended by about 20 people who enjoyed themselves thoroughly and had lots of fun.  So be sure to attend all these events . There is ample parking close to the braai area and there is also a kiddies playground with foofy slides, swings, a sand pit, tree walking on ropes, a tree house and they can run and kick balls on the expansive lawns behind the parking area.  So let’s make this a special fun weekend and Sunday a “lekker” Bullybraai day!  You don’t have to be a Bull Terrier fan or member of any club to attend these events.  Just rock up with your eats and drinks! Follow the maps provided here:

RECOGNITION OF MERIT AWARD [ROM]

The updated and latest SABTC Recognition of Merit Award (ROM) rules and regulations as from May 2011 can be found here. This system has been in operation without interruption since January 2005, but unfortunately was not properly publicised in the past.  It will now be properly promoted on this Website and in SABTC NewsBullytins.  Only four special champion Bull Terriers have qualified for this prestigious award since 2005.  They are the bitch, Ch Dajamani Valnico of Bellators (Supreme Bull Terrier 2005), and the dogs, Ch Dajan Skies the Limit at Sandawana - Imported UK (Supreme BT 2004 & Stud Dog of the Year 2006), Ch Carradice Free Spirit and Ch Lubjan Monchou of Rhizen (Supreme BT 2010), in that order.  Although Ch Carradice Free Spirit was not crowned Supreme Bull Terrier, he has been Stud Dog of the Year the past two years.  This is a clear indication of how extremely special the ROM title is to indicate the very best of the best of our Champions.  This title should spur us on to show our Champions in the Champions class and also show our aspiring champions for CC’s and BOB to gain ROM points by beating Champions for BOB at Championship shows.  The fully updated ROM Register will soon be published on this Website.
